Virtual Desktop Infrastructure: The new face of thin client computing

If you have the hardware, VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) can deliver a thin client experience similar to that of a desktop PC, but challenges remain.

Now practically synonymous with desktop virtualization, VDI uses a hypervisor to run many instances of a desktop VM (virtual machine) on one or more physical servers, providing a customizable environment for each user. While VDI makes sense for some deployments, broader proliferation awaits such advances as the client hypervisor, which runs VMs on client hardware.
